As Executive Director of La Plaza Cultural, an East Village based community garden, Ross Martin is involved on every level of planning, designing and executing community projects. Under his leadership,La Plaza has blossomed into a fruit and tree filled green oasis. Community garden members work together to plan and harvest community beds, prune fruit trees, and socially interact in a beautiful, wild space in New York City.
Ross uses La Plaza Cultural as a permaculture science lab. He has started with concepts such as swalls and hugel beds in La Plaza, and developed his ideas further for his commercial clients, and for larger community projects, such as Gardens Rising. On behalf of La Plaza, Ross has been awarded a 30K grant from TripAdvisor to create a green powered sustainable structure within The Garden. In his writing and research work, Ross is actively looking for ways that we, as New Yorkers, can implement solutions that create a more sustainable world.
