Mega Window Box
Towering twenty stories above the Queensboro bridge grows a completely different group of gardens. Guests to this eastside Penthouse, after delighting in a world class contemporary art collection, step out to take in the Midtown skyline framed by this magnificent planting. Oversized metal window boxes bordering the narrow terrace are full of riotously colorful natives and pollinators. Plantings rotate several times seasonally assuring visitors a year round visual bounty. But not to worry, little goes to waste; most of these wonderful specimens find final homes in community gardens and local restaurant outdoor-dining spaces. Colors are chosen to compliment the rotating artwork and splendid cut flower displays within the living room gallery.
An even skinnier terrace adorns the dining room and kitchen featuring an inkberry and blueberry hedge screening less desirable views.
Upstairs a whimsical mix of food plants, natives, and exotics, burst from Paula Hayes’s playful Silicon Planters exploding in exuberant color and fragrance. A garden to delight the senses.
