Eclectic Elegance - Park Avenue
This garden in a tower—whose name, ahem, we refuse to utter–is twenty-five stories above the iconic avenue two blocks from Central Park. These wonderfully eccentric clients, stewards of Tibetan and Buddhist art, were not satisfied with the boiler plate design their landscaper offered. So their fabulous interior designer, Samuel Botero, asked Ross Martin Design to step it up. Another fantastic collaboration.
Acclaimed metal artist, Armando Ramirez’s, stunning custom trellising and stands hold the couples’ antique terracotta friezes. His mesmerizing fountain delightfully splashes and gurgles. Specially fabricated metallic boxes fit perfectly odd shaped spaces and form an interesting sequence of outdoor rooms and experiences.
A wildly diverse plant pallet builds on Sam’s flamboyant yet sophisticated interiors. As per RDM’s wont, a mix of sturdy beautiful natives is complemented with sprays of exotic color.
Retro furniture with elegant vibrant cushions add panache. Like a journey through a fantastical forest, the garden lures exploration, with surprise vistas, sights, and panoramas perhaps leading to an afternoon siesta. A craned neck reveals a sliver of the great park beyond. Blueberries can even be had on the way.
Plant it and they will come; many pollinators and beneficial insects also love this lofty haven.
